Florida’s bail bond system is dysfunctional by design. The Florida Division of Financial Services does not follow the law, actively supports corruption in the bail bond business and exercises its disciplinary powers only towards honest bail bond companies and bail bondsmen who complain about the overt corruption of Court Clerks, law enforcement, DFS, the Insurance Commissioner and many others. It has been going on for a long time. Both Alex Sink and Jeff Atwater actively have prevented any effective enforcement of the many laws and regulations effecting the bail bond industry. The Florida Insurance Commissioner refuses to regulate the insurance companies issuing bail bonds in Florida. Literally millions of dollars due the taxpayers from defaulted bail bond obligations are ignored by these officials.
